THE STORY OF FRED PERRY
Fred Perry is one of the most iconic British brands in history. Frederick John Perry, who is being known as the Fery Perry brand," is actually an English professional tennis player who won three consecutive Wimbledon titles from 1934-1936. He was so successful that he was able to make a living from playing tennis, but he wanted more. Frederick wanted his own brand, something that would give him a competitive edge over other players. So in 1933, he founded his company, Fred Perry Sportswear Ltd., and began designing and manufacturing clothing for tennis players. His first products were white shirts with a large black "F" on the chest and back. The shirts were made from a cotton-polyester blend and were very breathable—perfect for tennis! Perry's success grew rapidly over the next few years as he expanded into other sports: golf, cricket, and polo. By 1936, his company had become one of Britain's largest manufacturers of sports clothing in both men's and womenswear categories.
