Cotton On Group
Founded in Australia, the first Cotton On store was birthed in 1991 and was a family affair between the founder, Nigel Austin and his cousins. His first venture into the idea was back in 1988 when he first sold denim jackets on sale from the boot of a Ford Bronco at just 18 years old. Upon its success in Australia, it had expanded into various other regions. Later in 2012, the Cotton On group hit 1,000 stores and began a worldwide phenomenon. In 2018, Cotton On joined the Action Collaboration Transformation, working alongside other signatories in hopes to achieve living wages for all workers, and especially those under its wing.
Beyond fashion
Cotton On leaves behind a strong legacy. It believes in the power of change, and that the power of that change lies in the hands of the consumer. This is why Cotton On actively promotes its Foundation arm, and ensures that every item purchased under the wing of the Foundation goes back into a community of need. It’s beyond fashion, it’s responsible living through the empowerment of the youth.
Their work largely encompasses Uganda, South Africa, Thailand and the Northern Territory in the last year.
With the support of team members, customers and ambassadors, the Cotton On Foundation has raised over $85 million to help reduce global poverty. Yet, the work has just begun!
