The Little-Known Diet Secrets of Victoria’s Secret Models

Written by Joyce Chua

Victoria’s Secret models have arguably the most enviable figures. With killer curves and killer confidence to boot as they strut down the runway, the lithe and leggy Angels have spurred many women on to get fit.

Aside from killing it at the gym and doing all kinds of sports to maintain their figures, the models also maintain clean eating lifestyles. They take care of their bodies inside and out, and the results come through in their complexion and figure. Diet to them isn’t a quick fix, but a part of their lifestyle, which makes it easier to stick to it.

Here are some diets of the most body-beautiful Victoria’s Secret angels:

1. Doutzen Kroes

The Dutch mother-of-two has a tush like no other, devilish curves and an angelic face, yet remains incredibly down-to-earth and nurturing towards her equally beautiful family. Is it any wonder she’s my favourite?

Doutzen focuses a lot on what she eats before and after her daily workouts because, according to her, that is what fuels your workout and aid in recovery. She takes low-fat yoghurt with wheat-free granola and a cup of java before heading for a long workout. Sometimes, when she doesn’t have time to prepare her pre-workout snacks, she settles for some energy bars.

Her post-workout snacks depend on the type of workout she does. She focuses mostly on toning, and her protein-based snack includes hemp, brown rice, or unsalted nuts and dry fruits, along with a protein shake or oats.

Doutzen admits to having experimented with her diet for years before realising that the best way to maintain a healthy diet is by sticking to natural foods. This includes fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, nuts and whole grains, lots of water. She emphasises that everybody’s body and genetic composition is different and complex, so it is necessary to experiment until you find the right combination for your body. She shares that French fries and potato chips are her weaknesses, but she exercises portion control and has a salad with her fries.

2. Alessandra Ambrosio

The Brazilian bombshell is also a mother to a beautiful daughter and is a foodie who goes for whatever she likes to eat. In the morning, she has a breakfast of eggs with bacon daily. The eggs vary — Eggs Benedict (her favourite), scrambled, or sometimes fried eggs. Aside from these, her breakfast also includes coffee, fruits, and sandwiches, muffins, bagels, or bread. Yes, that means she eats carbs.

For lunch, Alessandra has a protein-rich salad filled with filet mignon or chicken breast, along with rice and beans. Otherwise, she turns to her favourite Japanese restaurant and fills up on tuna rolls, California rolls, miso soup, and salad. After that, she sometimes has candy. Yes, a model who has dessert and carbs — some people just lucked out in the gene pool.

In the evening, Alessandra snacks on nuts and a cup of coffee. For dinner, she goes for lobster ravioli, caviar, salami, and tiramisu. Otherwise, it’s Japanese food again — she has spicy Kalbi soup, filet mignon, mushrooms, meats, sweet potato and S’mores for dessert.

3. Miranda Kerr

The Australian supermodel, mother to one very adorable son Flynn Bloom, lives by the Blood Type Diet, which is about eating depending upon blood group. Her blood type is A, and she eats accordingly. The Blood Type Diet (also called Eat Right 4 You) is created by Dr. Peter D’Adamo, who purports that basing a diet on one’s blood type can aid in digestion.

Not a fan of meat, Miranda eats foods rich in iron to make up for it, and occasionally splurges on ice creams and chocolates. She eats on the 80/20, which means she eats healthy 80% of the time and leaves 20% for favourite foods. She also loads up on fresh produce, low-GI and high-alkaline foods, and drinks plenty of water.

4. Karlie Kloss

(Though she just announced that she’d be quitting VS to go to school, the American “baby of the VS family” will always be one of the eight Angels.) Kloss has a sleek, gazelle-like figure with long, toned limbs, and she credits her ballet background for her lean muscles.

Her diet is loaded with natural whole foods, and she substitutes cow’s milk for almond milk. She eats a light breakfast before her morning workout, usually Greek yoghurt and fresh fruit or a green juice, as she doesn’t like eating something too heavy before exercising. After her workout, however, she goes for a power breakfast, which she claims helps her feel strong and energised. Her breakfast consists of a protein smoothie (made of one cup of unsweetened almond milk, a spoonful of natural chocolate protein powder, one whole banana, and one cup of blackberries), porridge, or an egg-white omelette with avocado topped off with a little hot sauce, and a glass of fresh fruit juice. Breakfast can also include cereals, crepes, or pancakes.

She’s a vegetarian, so she tries to maintain her protein intake even though she abstains from meat.
