South Korean model and actress Shin Min Ah may be known for her natural, effortless beauty and charm, but her on-screen presence also stole many hearts.
Having launched her career as a model for Kiki magazine when she was a doe-eyed teenager of 14, Shin dabbled in acting three years later and has since gone on to shine in leading roles in TV dramas such as A Love To Kill (2005), My Girlfriend Is A Nine-Tailed Fox (2010), Arang and the Magistrate (2012), Oh My Venus (2015), Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (2021), Our Blues (2022) and also new upcoming drama this August 2024 No Gain No Love. By the 2000s, Shin had sealed her title as the CF Queen of Korea, being one of South Korea’s most in-demand commercial models. She modelled for Giordano with her Oh My Venus co-star So Ji Sub and advertised LG phones with Secret Garden (2011) heart-throb Hyun Bin. Her fashion magazine features are so numerous that The New York Times even dubbed her the “Asian Kate Moss” and “South Korean triple threat” in 2012. With her chic jet-setter look and ladylike image, Shin won the Hot Fashionista award at the 2009 Mnet 20’s Choice Award. She also won the Top Excellence Award, Actress in a Miniseries in 2022.
On her goddess-like image in the entertainment industry, Shin remains modest about it. She credits the success of her roles to her colleagues as well. “I’ve just been blessed with good male co-stars. They always adjust to me well and create good chemistry, so I think as a result I’ve been able to showcase good acting.”
It was arguably her role as the adorable gumiho who falls for a human in My Girlfriend Is A Nine-Tailed Fox that catapulted her to stardom. But Shin has gone on to take on a variety of roles such as a spunky ghost in Arang and the Magistrate and a chubby lawyer in Oh My Venus (which required three hours of makeup for the svelte actress!). In her latest drama, Tomorrow With You (2017), she plays a time-traveller’s wife alongside Lee Je-Hoon.
But the real chemistry lies off-screen with her boyfriend, fellow model and actor Kim Woo Bin.
The ridiculously good-looking couple, who met on the set of Giordano, admitted their relationship in 2015, and Shin is generously candid about her dating life and the possibility of marriage in the future.
