5 Lessons To Learn From ‘Blackpink: Light Up The Sky’

Are you a Blink? Deep dive and take a look at the Netflix documentary (October 14, 2020) on K-pop band, BLACKPINK.

Go to most anyone on the street, and you’ll definitely find that most people know who BLACKPINK is.

There is no running away from the influence of this K-pop band in not just Singapore, but the world. They have become a worldwide phenomenon, and for good reason too.

Are you familiar with who Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé are? They are the members of Blackpink! And the stars of this new short, but sweet documentary highlighting the trials and tribulations of the Korean idol music industry, and the positives it brings as well.

With the release of their new album Lovesick Girls and the music videos on Oct 2, fans and supporters are pumped to be able to check out behind-the-scene(BTS) make-up looks and venture into the life of these amazing K-pop idols even if just for a glimpse.

Netflix is responsible for this newly released documentary on the girls, and here is what we’ve learned through that documentary!

1. There are no shortcuts in life

Years on end spent away from family was definitely a hard sacrifice BLACKPINK members had to take to get to the level of success they are at now.

Great things in life do not come easy, and there are no shortcuts to make it happen faster. The girls spend, 4,5 and even 6 years training — since they were teens(!) before being able to debut as a group.

Trust the process and be committed in your endeavors, the fruit of your efforts will be seen eventually!

2. Work hard, and know what your passion is

Just like how the girls have had to work overtime in the studio producing their best takes and tracks, the same applies in life too.

Sometimes you will find yourself having to pull in extra hours, or more time into a task, job, assignment, presentation, or hobby, but it does not mean each and every minute spent on that is for nothing.

What came out of their hard work, was magnificent masterpieces that resonate with the world on a huge, never-before-seen scale. And it’s all because the girls knew what they wanted, and went for it without excuses.

Rosé staying in the studio until 6am? Yeah, that’s the type of hard work we’re talking about!

3. Always be yourself

Each of our lovely girls has distinctive personality traits and characteristics, that’s what makes them so loved by so many! They are relatable, and down to earth.

Rosé — hails from Australia, playful cheeky and fun.

Jisoo — the unnie of the group, oldest, and smartest!

Lisa from Thailand — cool, collected and always positive.

Jennie — Korean who lived in New Zealand, strong-willed, perfectionist and ready to kick butt!

The lesson to be drawn from seeing a little glimpse into their life is that there is no sense in making yourself out to be who you are not in the long run.

Trying to keep up a façade will get tiring eventually, and the people who matter will love you for YOU, not the face you put on in the morning.

4. Always take care of your health

Whether it’s insomnia, sore muscles or physical sickness, do not take these issues lightly.

Like with the girls, when there was an issue with their mental, physical and emotional health, they found solutions to help them through it.

Do not forsake your health for the sake of success, because that’s all you’ll truly have at the end of the day.

Despite being top-tier performers and artists, they still make it a priority to take care of themselves while trying to navigate the business of their lives.

5. Always be willing to learn and improve

It’s just as the old saying goes — practice makes perfect.

None of the girls started off ready for the stage in the same way as they are now.

They spent a lot of time perfecting their craft and honing their skills.

There’s another saying that goes like this — anything that is worth doing in life, is worth doing badly.

That just means that you shouldn’t be afraid of doing badly at something, be it at a skill, a hobby, work, or even in school.

The important thing is to continue moving forward!
