Get ready for a dazzling display of light, color, culture, and joy — Deepavali (also known as Diwali or the Festival of Lights) is returning to Singapore in 2025, and it’s going to be spectacular.
When Is Deepavali 2025?
In 2025, Deepavali will be on Monday, 20 October — a gazetted public holiday in Singapore.
This works in everyone’s favor: since it’s a weekday holiday, many will get the day off — more time to immerse in the festivities!
What to Expect Deepavali In Singapore?
Little India Lights Up
One of the most iconic parts of Deepavali in Singapore is the Little India Deepavali Light-Up. Starting 6 September 2025, Serangoon Road and surrounding streets are decorated with archways, motifs, and LED installations. They’ll glow nightly from about 7 pm to midnight (and until 1 am on weekends).
Expect visuals full of peacocks, lamps (diyas), lotuses, and vibrant color schemes—a feast for your e

Utsavam Street Parade
Kicking off the season, the Utsavam Street Parade is held on 6 September 2025, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm along Serangoon Road.
Deepavali Festival Village & Bazaars
The classic Deepavali festival village returns in 2025. From 20 September to 19 October, evening bazaars light up along Campbell Lane and Hastings Road. You’ll find traditional clothing, festive decorations, handicrafts, Indian sweets, and more. Open nightly from ~7 pm to midnight.
Indian Heritage Centre Open House
From 27 September to 19 October, the Indian Heritage Centre hosts its Deepavali Open House. Expect cultural performances, hands-on craft workshops, dress-up booths, exhibits, food demos, and more. On Fridays and Saturdays, extended hours.
Deepavali Treasure Hunt & Workshops
Look out for fun community events like the treasure hunt (4 October in Little India), rangoli or kolam workshops (e.g. at Tekka Place), and flower-tying sessions.
Also, keep an eye on Thimithi (firewalking ceremony) — held about a week before Deepavali at Sri Mariamman Temple. It’s a deeply spiritual ritual in honor of female deities, and draws those who want a more solemn experience.
Decorations Extend to Public Transport
From late September through early November, Deepavali motifs will also appear on selected trains, buses, and inside Little India MRT. The station walls and staircases may feature festive designs — so you get immersed even on your commute.
