The creme de la creme, the 95th Academy Awards, and the 2023 Oscars are finally here.
Over on this side of the world, crowds are rejoicing for Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh on her momentous win. She holds the title of the first Asian actress to win Best Actress at the Oscars for her starring role in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
It’s been an eventful awards season with many heavyweights such as Everything, Everywhere, All at Once; Tár; The Whale; Top Gun: Maverick; and more taking on their fair share of awards. It’s no different for the 2023 Oscars, with Everything Everywhere All at Once sweeping up seven awards for best picture, best actress, best director, best editing, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, and best original screenplay.
Naturally, with any Hollywood award show, the red carpet is where all the eyes are at — or in the case of this year’s Oscars, the champagne carpet. Celebrities rocked the show in their best evening attire, and we’re here to summarize it for you.
Michelle Yeoh in Dior
Of course, we had to start with Michelle Yeoh herself. You’ve seen her past glamorous red carpet looks here — what do you think of her Dior haute couture gown? The feathery dress is made of ivory silk organza and is a departure from her usual shimmery, glitzy pieces from Elie Saab.
Angela Bassett in Moschino
Angela Bassett was a vision of purple, dressed in a custom Moschino gown for the Oscars. The organza gown had a dramatic bow at the neckline with a mermaid skirt, befitting her regal role as the queen mother of Wakanda. Incidentally, she was a nominee for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Marvel movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Cara Delevingne in Elie Saab
Looking completely different from where she was several months back, Cara Delevingne was absolutely stunning in her Elie Saab haute couture gown. The deep red dress was dramatic with its billowing skirt and a thigh-high slit.
Halle Bailey in Dolce & Gabbana
The Little Mermaid star channelled her character and rocked the red carpet with a dreamy, seafoam-blue tulle dress by Dolce & Gabbana. The dress showed off the actress’ youthfulness, yet had the sophistication befitting an Oscar’s ceremony.
Michael B. Jordan in Louis Vuitton
Who says you can’t get creative with men’s black tie suits? Michael B. Jordan looks absolutely impressive in his classic Louis Vuitton double-breasted tuxedo, adorned with stunning Tiffany & Co. brooches.
Harry Shum Jr. in Adeam
The tuxedo may be a western-based apparel, but Harry Shum Jr. jazzes it up with this East-meets-West version by Adeam. The tux features peak lapels but is neither single nor double-breasted. It is, instead, cinched at the waist with an obi belt like a kimono.
Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton
While most women tend to opt for gowns at the Oscars, we do see the occasional two-piece making an appearance on the red carpet. Lead actress in Tár, Cate Blanchett, showed up in a velvet and silk combo from Louis Vuitton. The asymmetrical blue velvet top draped perfectly with the sustainable silk skirt, which featured a short train.
Janelle Monae in Vera Wang
Another two-piece contender at the 2023 Oscars was Janelle Monae, who wore a Vera Wang creation. Her plunging neckline corset top was strikingly complemented with the bright tangerine draped mermaid skirt for a modern black-tie interpretation.
Rihanna in Alaia
Last but not least, Rihanna shows off her baby bump on the red carpet in a sexy, bondage-inspired piece from Alaia. We love the contrast between the banded leather and sheer mesh on the torso area, proving that mother still slays.
